                                                                    LEVEL ONE DIVER

OPENWATER SCUBA

Your first step into the beautiful underwater world of Cousteau is your open water training. Our maximum class size is only six students so you get more personal attention! We believe that effective instruction can only be achieved with these class sizes. In this manner you will have ample opportunity to practice the required skills and become comfortable in the water prior to your first excursion to the real word of diving.  We offer a monthly class schedule as well as private and semi-private instruction. Our instructors are highly-trained individuals with a true love of the sport of scuba diving. Don’t be surprised to find your instructor diving with you on a regular basis after class is over! We dive about 40 weekends a year.

WHAT TO EXPECT

On the average, you will have ten hours of classroom study to learn the academic portion of scuba diving and ten hours of pool work to familiarize yourself with the equipment you will use. After that, you will have two full days of diving in an "openwater" setting to receive your certification. Certification is not guaranteed! You must pass a written exam and demonstrate certain skills in an open water environment before you will receive your certification card.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

Before the first pool session you will need a mask, a set of fins, a snorkel, and a pair of dive boots. This equipment is considered personal gear. It will be covered in your first class session so you may purchase these items after you have been explained the choices available.

Before your openwater certification dives you will need a knife, a pair of gloves, and a dive slate.

Note: A flashlight is recommended for openwater but is not required.

BASIC GUIDELINES

It is mandatory that you attend all classes during your course. If for any reason you cannot make a scheduled class, it is your responsibility to notify the instructor. You may be able to re-schedule. However, there is usually an additional fee unless you make up the class in another regularly scheduled session.

If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call or stop by. We are open Monday through Saturday until 6:00 p.m.
